Going after Jho Low signals something amiss

Umno Youth’s demands for Putrajaya to investigate businessman Jho Low has called into question whether he has a role in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), PKR says.

This is because Putrajaya has always insisted that there are no wrongdoings within 1MDB and that Low has nothing to do with the company or the running of the government.

Thus, it is strange now that Umno Youth is demanding Putrajaya scrutinises 1MDB and Low, especially after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s closed-door briefing for Umno Youth on Monday, PKR vice-president Tian Chua said at a press conference today.

“I don’t know what Najib told Umno Youth. Perhaps, he told them something different from what the public has been told,” Tian Chua said.

Allegations of Low’s influence over Putrajaya was reignited by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who blogged about the matter on April 2.

What did PM tell Umno Youth?

Following this the April edition of Euromoney published an interview with Low, in which he claimed that he was now a scapegoat for 1MDB’s failures and victim of Umno’s “spin masters”.

Low also claimed that 1MDB had consulted him on several issues, but he was never a decision maker in the debt-ridden company.

Tian Chua said Umno Youth’s call for Low to be investigated had contradicted Putrajaya’s stand and he wondered if the instruction to do so came from Najib himself.
