Najib had to ‘take people out’ after draft charge emerged, says Rahman Dahlan

Datuk Seri Najib Razak had to “take people out” when an alleged draft charge sheet against him emerged, Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communications director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said.

In an interview with The Star, Rahman reminded the public that Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali stated the alleged charge sheet could be a plot to criminalise Najib.

“Given that scenario what would you do? You would take drastic action, wouldn’t you? Okay, take these people out first so that things will get back to normalcy and see what will happen next.

“If you could appreciate that scenario, then you would understand the flurry of action taken by the PM,” Rahman was quoted as saying in the interview.

He did not rule out the possibility that the charge sheet existed, adding he believed it was only declared false because it did not go through the proper channel of charging an individual.

Two Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) directors were transferred to the prime minister’s department, while its forensics divisions head, senior assistant commissioner, special operations deputy director and an officer with the Attorney-General’s Chambers were hauled up by police amid MACC’s probe into the US$700 million deposited into Najib’s accounts.

The transfer orders were later revoked following public outcry, but Rahman said what had happened to them was “normal”.

“You have the allegation of MACC revealing information to Sarawak Report – what do you do? Under normal circumstances you will transfer officers.

“In my ministry, if I find an officer or the secretary-general allegedly releasing confidential information, he would be removed,” Rahman told The Star.

When told the officers should have been charged instead, Rahman said: “Yes, of course. But you must remember that these are very dynamic situations, so God forbid if that charge sheet was actually served — can you imagine what would happen?”
