Go after those who misappropriated 1MDB funds, not whistleblowers

Go after those who misappropriated 1MDB funds, not whistleblowers, IGP told

The police should catch those behind the purported misappropriation of 1MDB’s funds, instead of the whistleblowers who exposed the crime, says DAP lawmaker Tony Pua.

Pua’s demand comes after the country’s top cop, Khalid Abu Bakar, said his men will probe whistleblower site Sarawak Report under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) for leaking the classified auditor-general’s report on 1MDB.

“As the chief of Malaysian police, Khalid should be thoroughly scandalised and embarrassed by the single largest multibillion dollar heist which has taken place under his nose over the past five years.

“However, from his media response, Khalid appears completely indifferent to the great robbery, but instead is more interested in a witch hunt to capture and charge the heroic whistleblower under the OSA,” Pua said in a statement.

He added that Malaysians were shocked the police apparently had yet to gain access to the detailed auditor-general’s report on 1MDB.

“Have the police been so lackadaisical in their investigations on 1MDB that they haven’t already obtained a copy of the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB?

“The IGP looked like a fool disclosing to Malaysians that he still has to ‘discuss with the auditor-general first’ to determine if what was leaked on Sarawak Report was indeed the auditor-general’s report,” said the Petaling Jaya Utara MP.
